How can we empower you through the planning process?

The need for an NDIS plan should not be asked again and again further traumatising the participant and their families, a background history for a participant should be kept on file.
NDIA or LAC staff need to be trained in disability and health needs and definitions and have good English language skills both verbal and written.

What is the best way to provide supports for those not in the NDIS?

Health system should have disability focused services for adults the same as paediatric services including rehab specialist doctors, neurologists, psychiatrists, orthopaedic doctors

How you would define reasonable and necessary?

Reasonable and necessary means supports to allow a person with a disability to access daily living activities the same as able bodied members of the community and uphold that persons human rights.

What is the best way to support children with disability… and those with emerging developmental concerns?

Children with additional needs are not receiving NDIS plans early enough to access early intervention services and the process to access a plan is often traumatising as parents have to prove their child's needs and retell traumatic stories even with supporting documentation from doctors and therapists. Often the planners have little knowledge of disability and health needs. Planners often comment on what assistive technology is appropriate for yound children with no experience or knowlege. Early intervention should be delivered in natural environments with trained paediatric therapists. This does not always occur with children seen in clinics by therapists with no paediatric experience

How can the market be better designed, structured and supported?

assisitve technology should be prescribed by experienced therapists that have shown by years of experience and knowledge and professional development such as the SWEP prescribed register and levels of prescriber ability
Paediatric services should be delivered by experienced paediatric

How should outcomes and performance be measured and shared?

An understanding that a life long disability does not get better or go away. The scheme needs to be about maximising participation. Goals suhould be developed that can be achieveable.

How would you build better outcomes or goals into your plan?

Realistic goals short, mid and long term. may need to change as years go by.

What does good service from someone helping you navigate the NDIS look like?

Planners have good knowledge of disability and health and have good English skills
Planners to be accessible
Planners and delegates to be transparent

Is there anything else that you would like to tell the NDIS Review?

If reports from therapists are required then extra hours should be funded for this as participants are losing therapy hours to endless reports therapists are asked to write
