Bruce and Lisa at the DSC NDIS Conference

A key objective of the NDIS Review is to engage broadly and provide opportunity for honest, safe and open conversations on how we can better the NDIS. The lived experience and ideas shared by; participants and their families, providers and community and, where necessary, draw on specialist expertise, will help us with our recommendations to government.

Recently DSC, a training, conference and consulting group specialising in the NDIS, hosted their annual conference.

The conference focuses on sharing information about the big issues happening right now and attendees are able to speak with and get answers from NDIS industry leaders all around Australia.

Our Co-chairs, Bruce Bonyhady and Lisa Paul attended the conference and hosted a lively interactive Q & A session; New Directions, the Big Review.

A strong discussion took place with attendees sharing their lived experiences with the NDIS, the problems they have encountered and their ideas on how the NDIS can be improved in the future.

I went from sitting at home watching movies, to being a full-time student, kicking extraordinary goals!!!  My NDIS is still not great, but it got me out the house at least!

Key themes emerged from the Q & A session including:

  • Planning and assessments
  • Social capital
  • Quality and safeguards
  • Workforce
  • Children in the NDIS.

And attendees presented ideas to some of these key themes including:

  • LAC’s should return to the pure role of connecting people to the community.
  • NDIA need to create specialised NDIS Delegates (even PWD) to assist NDIS participants to make the NDIS plan decisions according to the NDIS Act and according to the need of the individual Child/PWD.
  • Having transparency about the qualifications and experience of the LAC’s and the planners/delegates administering the scheme on the ground is essential.
  • There should be better / more efficient feedback mechanisms to the Commission.

These consultations continue to be critical to us as it is your ideas and solutions that will form the basis of the Review’s recommendations to Government.&

It’s important to us that we continue to hear from you. For more information on the NDIS Review, and how to participate, visit have your say.
